The Cyprus Green Party condemns today’s illegal visit of the Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Büyükanıt in occupied Cyprus.
The visit of the Turkish General is connected to the latest developments concerning the Cyprus problem. It is obvious that Talat, by inviting the Chief of the military power structure of Turkey, wishes to deal with the reactions of Ankara against the enforcement of the 8th of July agreement, as agreed upon at the latest meeting with president Christofias.
Today’s visit of Büyükanıt to Cyprus reminds us of the 40 thousand heavily armed Turkish soldiers on our island and reveals the true dimension of things. Unfortunately the real negotiator before president Christofias is not Mehmet Ali Talat but the Turkish generals.
